TRAINING ON CREDIT RISK MANAGEMENT REGURATORY PERSPECTIVE STAKEHOLDERS FOR BANKING INSTITUTIONS AND OTHER STAKEHOLDERS FROM 11TH TO 15TH OCTOBER 2021 AT BANK OF TANZANIA MWANZA BRANCH

A. INTRODUCTION

The Bank of Tanzania Act, 2006 and the Banking and Financial Institutions Act, 2006 mandate the Bank

of Tanzania to license, regulate and supervise banks and financial institutions in Tanzania. As a regulator,

The Bank of Tanzania is entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring stable, sound and safe banking sector and financial system at large. In discharging this responsibility, it is the interest of the Bank to ensure the various stakeholders in the banking and financial sectors are conversant with relevant legal and regulatory requirements governing their operations.

Credit risk refers to the probability of loss due to borrower’s failure to make payment on any type of debt and is practice of mitigating losses by understanding the adequacy of banks’ capital and loan loss reserves at any given time and make a process that has long been challenge for financial institutions. Consequently. the Bank of Tanzania has organized this course with the objective of imparting necessary skills to participants on how to manage credit risk.

It is along this background that the Bank of Tanzania Academy has organized a one-week course, which is intended to impart necessary skills to staff of banking institutions and other stakeholders on how manage credit risk.

B. OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE

To impart necessary skills to participants on how to manage and review their credit portfolio in line with

regulatory requirements and applicable good practices. Also the course will expose participants on the essentials of credit risk management as emphasized by the regulator and other global standard bodies.

C. CONTENTS OF THE COURSE

  • Legal and regulatory framework pertaining to credit management;
  • Overview of risk management guidelines;
  • Overview of risk management in banking institutions;
  • Elements of effective credit risk management system;
  • Elements of prudential regulations relating to credit management;
  • Responsibilities of board and senior management with respect to credit risk management;
  • Organization and governance of credit department:
  • Loan appraisal;
  • Loan documentation and monitoring;
  • Internal credit risk rating:
  • Principles of credit risk management;
  • Managing problem loans; and
  • Assessing IFRS 9 impairment on credit and regulatory provisions on credit.

D. TARGET GROUP

This course is designed specifically for officers of banking institutions and other related companies who are involved in credit operations including those from other functions who provide oversight and support to credit function such as risk management, internal audit, compliance, finance, legal. information technology, branch operations and treasury.

E. SCHEDULED DATES AND DURATION

 One (1) week: From 11″ to 15% October 2021. First Day Registration starts at 08.30 AM.

 F. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

This is a hands-on training whereby each participant is required to bring his/her own laptop. The Bank of

Tanzania will provide network connectivity.

G. COURSE FACILITATORS

This course will be facilitated by Bank of Tanzania Academy in collaboration with Directorate of Financial

Sector Supervision.

H. VENUE

Bank of Tanzania Mwanza branch.

L. FEES

Fee for each participant is TZS 1.0 million or USD S00 for non-residents covering tuition, course materials,

lunch and mid-session refreshments. Participants will be responsible for their travel costs and upkeep.
