MAIN THEME “TUNA FISHERIES FOR GROWTH OF INDUSTRIAL ECONOMY”
The United Republic of Tanzania has received funds from the Global Environmental facility (GEF) towards the cost of South
West Indian Ocean Fisheries Governance and Shared Growth program SWIOFish;!The facility intends to attend the short-term studies not exceeding 12 months in the three major groups;
· A small grant facility; shall support the research that not exceeding USD 10,000 per applicant
· A medium grant facility; shall support the research not exceeding USD 20,000 per applicant
· A large grant facility; shall support the research not exceeding USD 50,000 per applicant
The EXPRESSION OF INTEREST should be in line with the ultimate goals of MKUKUTA and MKUZA which on accelerated economic growth, reducing Poverty, improving the standard of living and social welfare of the people of Tanzania as well as good governance and accountability;
The EXPRESSION OF INTEREST should strictly NOT EXCEED eight (8) A4 pages (excluding the cover page and annexes) prepared as a WORD document, using Times New Roman 12 points with single space. It can be submitted by an Individual, Institution or a Consortium of Institutions. In the latter case, the lead Institution should submit the proposal on behalf of the Consortium. The institutions including the government agencies, research and academic institutions, Civil Society Organizations (NGOs, CBOs) and private companies;
The science-based information is important towards sustainable development of tuna and tuna like fisheries in Tanzania. Thus, the Deep Sea Fishing Authority DSFA intends to use part of the funds to support research initiatives on the tuna and tuna like species. The scope and sub themes for the grant facility are:
Sub-theme 1: Improve fish, fishery products quality and standards, and reduction of post-harvest loss; Sub-theme 2: Establishment of Tanzania standard unit for fishing in EEZ and land-based fisheries related facilities;
Sub theme 3: Cultural issues and food habits influencing consumption of tuna and tuna like species;
Sub theme 4: Fisheries related research and innovations;
Sub theme 5 : Tuna and tuna like Species socio economics research;
The Principal Investigator(s) should have attained an education level of at least Postgraduate degree in a discipline(s) related to/or relevant to the focus of the research, with outstanding track record on research projects; also, should be a scientist based in WIO region preferably Tanzanian institution. Post Graduate students under the Principal Investigator(s) are also encouraged to participate;

The expression of interest should be received within 21 days from to-date (16/10/2019). The application received after the prescribed date will not considered for short listing.
