Introduction

SOS Children’s Villages Tanzania (SOS CV T2) is an independent non-governmental social development organization affiliated to SOS Children’s Villages international, working in the spirit of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). Our mission is to build families for children in need and helping them shape their own futures. The work of SOS Children’s Villages in Tanzania (SOS CV TZ) began in 1991 in Zanzibar, and later in spread to mainland to Arusha, Dar es Salaam and Mwanza regions. From Year 2017 the organization extended its programs to Iringa and Mufindi districts

Our flagship services as child development organization includes Care. Education and Health to reach children who have lost parental care and those at-risk of losing parental care.

The overall purpose of the project is to improve the education opportunities for children under play and learn project in Chanika and Zingiziwa wards. This is attained through improving the learning environment and strengthening the quality of education in the target area. Also. the project aims at strengthening the MEMKWA programme to enable out of school children to access education. Requirements

“Literacy build confidence and removes fear from children, thus enhanced emotional intelligence to protect themselves against harmful social and cultural practices”.

SOS Children’s Village Dar Es Salaam through Play and Learn program is looking for national, individual company/ consultants who will refurbish and transform the selected space through creating an inspiring library stocked With text books, fictions and non-fictions that are language accessible in seven public schools which are;

l). Chanika Primary School, Primary School ii). Lukooni Primary School, iii). Kimwani Primary School iv). Vikongoro v). Zingiziwa Primary School, vi). Nzasa Primary School vii) Yongwe Primary School

This will have to fully engage children, teachers and local goverment authorities as to ensure its sustainability create ownership and commitment.

General Objective
The general objective is to create a reading culture to the children’s in early age in the community we serve.

Specific objectives:

Specifically. Library establishment goal is

  • To enhance and foster performance of children in public schools.
  • Bring down the pupil book ratio.
  • Prepare children in their early days in development. This includes the emotional. psychological and congnative development,
  • Ensure children, teachers and local government authorities engagement in the process for sustainability and ownership.

Deliverable:

  • Transform the selected space with total redecoration, intensive repairs, new furniture, mural design, electrical fixtures & fittings, librarian facilities, computers and books.
  • Create a sorting and referencing system, train on how to use/lend/keep books, train on computer maintenance and use. selection of library prefects and ‘digital buddies’.
  • Reading and Digital Literacy Initiatives, establish new reading clubs and upskill competent reading buddies’ so they are best placed to support their peers.
  • Teacher training to be led by qualified trainers covering student-centred learning, management of books in large classrooms and how to support reading culture and literacy activities.

Sustainability strategy

  • You will have to ensure Students. teachers, local government authorities and community engagement, this is the main strategy to apply as to ensure the changes are fostered and the project is sustainable. The strategy nurture ownership and commitment throughout the project cycle.
  • Engagement of the Regional based facilitators: The project will engage trained facilitators from the same a regional to ensure they support their own community and further support their initiatives even without SOS Children‘s Village engagement/involvement.
  • Ensure timely deliverance of work

Timeframe

  • The work will take a range of three months from day the tender is officially offered to begin. requirements for company/individual
  • Evidence of relevant experience in the execution of related works of equivalent nature. including the nature and value of the relevant contracts for each of the last 3 years.
  • The candidate profile requirement should include Artistic merit as evidenced in the visual material provided for previous projects;
  • Demonstrated previous relevant experience of creating artworks (including playground) in the public realm (and working within timelines and budgets).
  • Strength of proposed artistic approach and methodology, innovation in response to the site and context.
  • Experience working in interdisciplinary teams and an ability to work in an environment where transparency. inclusively and information sharing is critical to the success of the project.

forms and Conditions

  • A compulsory Site visit shall be conducted with the facilitation of Play and Learn Program Coordinator.
  • Bidders will arrange their own transportation to the Sites to be visited
  • The Library establishment Will take 3 months; Payment will be made in two installments 60% upfront upon Signing of the agreement; and 40% upon completion of the work and submission of the final report.
