Background information
Farm Radio International (FRI) is a Canadian charity working with more than 500 radio
Broadcasters in 38 African countries to fight poverty and food insecurity. FRI’s regional
Office is headquartered in Arusha, Tanzania. We help African broadcasters to meet the
Information needs of small-scale farmers and their families in rural communities by
Providing broadcaster resources and broadcasting trainings to help develop a higher
Standard of farm radio services, and impact programming that address specific
Developmental challenges.

Farm Radio International is looking for a Consultant to translate documents from English to Swahili and sometimes from Swahili to English.

The objective of the consultancy is to ensure a quality translation in Swahili and / or English of Farm Radio International documents.

Description of work
The tasks to be performed by the consultant are:
Translate documents provided by FRI into the other language (Swahili-English, English-Swahili)
Review Swahili documents and point out errors in grammar or language, or text that is difficult to understand.
Avoid literal, word-for-word translations, or translating according to GOOGLE TRANSLATE
Respect the style and the format of the document provided when translating into the other language

The contract will be for one year. The consultant will be overseen by Farm Radio Managing Editor and Tanzania Country Head of Programs.

Selection criteria for the consultant
The criteria for selecting the Consultant include the following:
Be a holder of at least a Higher Diploma in Translation or equivalent.
The Master in Translation will be an asset.
Have proven knowledge in the translation and revision of scientific and technical documents;
Have at least five years of relevant practical experience on issues of family farming, agricultural development, food security, gender, etc.
Have a good knowledge of the regional and international context in family farming, agricultural development, food security, gender etc.

Have a good command of Microsoft Office
Be available for the contract period.
