Duties and Responsibilities:

The Intern will be attached to the Politics and Diplomacy Sector in the Directorate of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Affairs and provide support to the Elections Support Unit, Mediation Support Unit as well as the Senior Officer - Politics and Diplomacy.

Qualifications:

Prospective candidates should be tertiary level (Masters / PhD) students or entry-level employees in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Office of the President or Election Management body of a given Member State.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assisting with;

 Conducting germination tests

*             Seed sample moisture testing

*             Supervising casual workers

*             Planting and monitoring field experiments

*             Field and laboratory data collection and capturing in Web-SDIS.

 Processing seed samples from Member States and those for shipment to the Svalbard Global Seed Vault.

Qualifications:

Diploma or Degree in any Agriculture field, or Plant Genetic Resources Conservation or Seed technology.

5.      TOURISM MANAGEMENT x 1

Duties and Responsibilities:

To assist the Senior Programme Officer-Tourism in activities of the newly established SADC Tourism Coordinating Unit which includes the following;

 Assist in facilitating the development of SADC Tourism Programme;

*    Assist in monitoring the implementation of Protocol on Development of Tourism by Member States;

 Assist in arranging tourism meetings, workshops and taking records where applicable;

*    Compile Ministerial decision matrix and report on implementation of

Ministerial decisions;

*    Assist in conducting research and collating information necessary to inform the process of removing barriers to cross-border travel and operations thereby creating an enabling environment for development sustainable tourism across the region;

 Preparing data for publishing on the SADC website and other forms of media; and

*    Perform any other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications.

Prospective candidate should be studying toward a degree in Tourism Development]Marketing/Business Administration.

6.      SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION X 2

Duties and Responsibilities

*           The Interns will be responsible for convening technical experts' meetings,  Drafting records of meetings,

*           Writing TORs for consultancies or studies,

*           Write research reports/documents, Concept Notes,

*           Assist in the implementation of Summit, Council, and Ministerial Decisions,  Writing letters, and providing administrative and technical support.  Provide support with implementation of the SIPS Programme.

Qualifications

Degree in Science and Engineering, or Science and Technology Policy, or Social Sciences or Public Policy and or other related disciplines in STI.

7.      VALUE CHAINS X 1

Duties and Responsibilities

*        Support the Directorate in coordinating the implementation of the Regional Mining Vision and Action Plan.

Qualifications:

Degree in Minerals/Natural Resources Economics, Geology, Economics, Mining Engineering or closely related fields. Candidates with Master's degrees in the above mentioned fields will have an added advantage.

*         The interns will be responsible for compiling data on industrialisation and follow up on the update of the industrialisation strategy road map.  Assist in the implementation of strategies in industrial development  Assist in enhancing productive capacity and competitiveness

Qualifications:

Degree in economics or business related. Candidates with Master's degrees in in Industrialisation and Competitiveness field will have an added advantage.

9.      STANDARDISATION, QUALITY ASSURANCE,        ACCREDITATION     OR METROLOGY (SQAM) X 1

Duties and Responsibilities

Intern for technical barriers to trade will

*    Assist Programme Officer SQAM in the Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) unit with the coordination of the matters of the tbt cooperation Structures  Application of the SQAM principles to support Industrialization and trade in the region.

*    Assist in raising awareness to relevant stakeholders

*    Engage in the planning and development of quality infrastructure available in the region,

*    Training on the international and regional agreements;

*    Preparing for and facilitating meetings,

*    Research, report writing and other elements related to the work of the TBT/SPS unit.

 The intern will assist and be mentored by both SPO-TBT and PO-SQAM.

10. HUMAN RESOURCES X 2

Main purpose of the internship:

The Human Resources and Administration intern will directly assist the Human Resources Directorate with a wide range of projects related to, recruitment, onboarding/orientation, HR records management and updating information in the Human Resources Management Information System (HRMIS).

Duties and Responsibilities

*  Consolidate applications received from Member States;

*  Generate a detailed Longlist for all Local and Project Positions;

*  Support administrative and logistic arrangements during shortlisting and interviews;

*  Draft shortlisting and interview reports;

 Assist in maintaining HR records (electronic and physical files)

*  Provide support the during the onboarding process of new employees,

*  Review new hire paperwork for accuracy and compliance

*  Support HR data collection, analysis, and reporting;

*  Help with safety and wellness initiatives; and          Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

*  Currently pursuing a degree or possessing a degree in Human Resources

Management, Business Management, Psychology, or a related field

 Assist in planning and budgeting through providing advice and technical support to the Programme Directorates;

 Assist in consolidation of plans and budgets, critically examining correctness, accuracy, completeness, conformance with agreed criteria. Assist in identification of synergies and cross-cutting aspects between programmes and projects.

*  Ensure that programmes and projects are aligned with the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP) or existing Strategic and Operational Plan of the Secretariat.

Qualifications:

At least a first Degree in Economics and studying towards Masters in Economics. Knowledge of integrated programme planning, budgeting, development, administration, monitoring and evaluation processes and systems. Proficient in the use of computers and computer software relevant to the position.

Duties and Responsibilities

 Assist with multi-media content development and uploading them on the online platforms, website; facebook, tweeter, Linkedln and You Tube;  Introduce creative ideas for video board content, video products to help promote SADC both in advertising and in social media efforts;

 Develop effective and engaging multimedia material utilizing video, PowerPoint, Flash, animated gifs and other interactive technologies;

*    Design PowerPoint presentations utilizing learning design concepts to determine arrangement of illustrative material, copy, style and graphics, and arranges layout to meet varying levels of individuals training needs;  Utilize software applications such as PowerPoint to create presentation from scratch or adapt templates, course materials, instructional materials, and multimedia assets into an integrated final form;

*    Create designs, scripts and revise interactive el-earning projects (including tests, narration, sound effects and graphics/animations);

*    Create graphic formats for web, video and print delivery to deliver visual interpretation of technical concepts;

 Utilize conceptual concepts to take raw content and create storyboards that support delivering an engaging learning experience;

*    Storyboard and animated video; design the graphic elements and animate in accordance with the style of the subject matter and audience;

*    Contribute to video shoots, edit raw footage including audio tracks, maintain storyboards and create professional HD video materials as needed;

 Help to conceptualize design structures that allow learners to apply core concepts for real world trainings, classes, and other programs for online or blended delivery;

*    Adopt and adapt Subject Matter Expert changes and revisions in materials.

 Provide support for multiple learning solution platforms such as Extranet, and I-MS; and

*    Assist with production and coordination of various integrated training activities.

Qualifications:

Graduate or Second year student studying toward Degree in IT, Mass Communication or Graphic Design with multi-media content as a major.

Skills Requirements:

*    A real passion for video production and graphic design

 Draft letters, annotated agendas, records of meetings, technical papers, concept notes, TORs for consultancies or studies

*                     Monitor and evaluate the implementation of the SADC ICT Programme and prepare M&E Reports

 Conducting research, analysis and dissemination of information on the ICT

Sector:

 Regularly collect data and information on the ICT Sector status/profile in Member States, using primary and secondary research techniques

*                     Co-ordinate research projects on the issues facing the ICT Sector in the region

*                     Analyze the data and information from the research commissioned  Regularly populate the regional database on the sector

*                     Prepare draft articles for the Inside SADC Newsletter and relevant media for the SADC website

*                     Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the SPO ICT.

Qualification

*          Assist to monitor and evaluate the implementation of the SADC Transport Programme and prepare M&E Reports

The interns will assist the Environment and Climate Change Unit with current and new programmes, as follows:

*                To assist in the development of new Programmes including Blue Economy Strategy, Circular Economy Strategy and Eco-Sustainability Cities Strategy.

*                To assist in communication and visibility of the Great Green Wall Initiative for Southern Africa

*                To assist with drafting project ideas and reports, TORS for and Concept notes and Memos and invitation letters

*                To support the implementation and follow up on existing programmes.

*                To conduct desk top studies to identify potential donors to support Environment and Climate Change programmes.

16.FOOD SECURITY AND AGRICULTURE UNIT X 1

Duties and Responsibilities:

To assist the Food Security and Agriculture Unit in manning the newly revamped SADC Agriculture Information Management System (AIMS), including the following:

*                processing, compilation, analysis, and reporting of data input from the AIMS database.

 apply statistical techniques and methods in the processing and analysis of data, and perform necessary statistical routines related to the collection, processing, compilation, analysis and reporting of statistical data for AIMS.

*                feed data (input) into the AIMS database, and maintain it up to date, in liaison with national AIMS focal point persons  perform quality control to verify accuracy and integrity of data as inputted by national AIMS, for analysis and reporting  prepare statistical tables for internal analysis  perform any other duties as may be assigned.

 Bachelor's BSc in Statistics or BSc in Agriculture, Economics or ICT with major in — Statistics, Quantitative Analysis or Data Analytics.

-To assist in research and information dissemination in promoting sustainable natural resources management;

-To participate in preparations of the relevant Technical and Policy committees,

-To assist in compiling, tracking, implementation and reporting of the Ministerial decisions

BACKGROUND

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) is a regional economic community founded and maintained by countries in Southern Africa. It aims to further the socio-economic, political and security cooperation among its Member States and foster regional integration in order to achieve peace, stability and wealth. SADC currently has sixteen (16) Member States with a population of approximately 340 million and a combined GDP of US$720 billion.

SADC Secretariat is currently recruiting interns in different Directorates/Units. RE: RECRU\TMENT OF INTERNS IN THE SADC SECRETARIAT

Reference is made to the above subject matter.

The Council of Ministers at its meeting held in August 2017 in Pretoria, South Africa approved the Internship Programme Policy. The Internship Programme is to be funded by the Member States, which includes accommodation in the host country, travel (airfares), medical/llfe cover and visa application. The SADC Secretariat will provide a living allowance of US$ 250.00 per month per intern.

In view of the above, the Secretariat has 17 internship opportunities in various

Directorates/Units. Through this letter and in accordance with the Internship Guidelines, Member States are invited to submit nominees to be considered for the internship, at least one intern per position

The SADC Secretariat could not appoint interns last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the travel restrictions, therefore we kindly request if you may indicate if your submissions from last year could still be considered

We anticipate that the process will be concluded by September 2021, and that the interns will be expected to start from November 2021 for a period of six (6) months. Please note that the requirements for internship positions are attached for ease of selection.

The SADC Secretariat would appreciate receiving the applications for the interns before the closing of business on Friday, 10th September 2021. We kindly request you to send the application documents in electronic format (preferably MS Word). The summary job descriptions for the internship positions are attached for your ease of selection.
