Manager: Corporate Affairs and Government Relations at NBC

Job Summary




Support the Managing Director in managing Government Relationship. Support the Managing Director in Building and Deepening relationships with Key Stakeholders. Support the Managing Director in managing Public Relations. Support Retail, Corporate Investment Banking and Business Banking directorates to attain business goals in specified areas of commercial opportunity. Support the NBC brand as the Spokesperson for the bank. Coordinate Internal & External Communications

Job Description​

Accountability:  Government Relations and Stakeholder Management 40%

Strategic Stakeholder Engagements:

  • Ensure cost effective and well planned NBC participation in National Events and that NBC attains its Brand recognition in ways that are consistent with the NBC values and culture.
  • Arrange MD appointments with Key Stakeholders in furtherance of commercial, strategic and citizenship objectives of NBC.
  • Coordinate NBC’s thought leadership through presence and participation by NBC in formal Business Associations to position NBC as a leading financial institution in Tanzania

Accountability:  Business Support 20%

Support Retail, CIB and Business Banking to attain business goals in specified areas of opportunity;

  • Retail Banking: Assist business to achieve annual growth targets through engagement of strategic stakeholders. I.e. Central Government, Local Government and Government Agencies and Parastatals.
  • CIB: Provide support to the Government Business Unit to achieve annual deposit targets through on boarding and opening government collection accounts through established relationship with the leadership of Regional Governments and key Ministries
  • Business Banking: assist business to launch Business Clubs in the planned areas of priority by ensuring high profile Business Community leaders and government officials attend the workshops and launches. Continue to support the Merchant Business by executing entry plans to acquire business with Government Agencies and Parastatals to achieve annual targets.

Accountability:  Internal and External Communications 20%

Internal Communications:

  • Organize MD meetings with employees on a quarterly basis.
  • Ensure internal stakeholders are kept informed of major developments / initiatives / activities of the Bank effectively.
  • Plan MD Roadshows to visit regional branches.
  • Ensure NBC has an effective media strategy through managing relationships with the media. Arrange media training sessions for NBC officials as appropriate
  • Ensure NBC Officials have the necessary knowledge in dealing with Key Stakeholders of the Bank. Arrange Protocol & Etiquette training sessions for NBC officials as appropriate.

External Communications:

  • Plan and execute all MD press engagements
  • Implement MD PR: Ensure extensive media coverage for all NBC events as per the Marketing calendar of events
  • As the bank’s spokesperson ensure that the appropriate messages are communicated as per the NBC media policy and standards.
  • Represent the Bank on key events as delegated by the MD

Accountability:  Compliance and Risk Management 10%

  • Work within the NBC governing policies and guidelines.
  •  Manage reputational risk and control effectively by applying applicable risk frameworks and embedding a positive risk culture.
  • Continuously develop Self, upholding the highest degree of professionalism. At All times remain compliant on critical compliance training requirements.

Perform all other duties as assigned by the NBC Managing Director.
