POSITION: Project Assistant

WeWorld is looking for one (1) Project Assistant for the project “Pamoja Tudumishe Elimu (2023-2026)” in Dar es Salaam.

Duty station: The Project Assistant who will based in Dar es Salaam (with travel to the project areas and schools in Kinondoni and Temeke Municipalities and to other areas if requested by the Project Manager).

Position reports to: Project Manager and Logistic officer and ultimately to the Country Representative

Contract Information:

Position/Contract type: Full time – National Employment Contract

Contract Duration: 12 months (including 3 months as probation period), with possibility of extension

Starting date: January, 2024

Organisation Description

WeWorld is an Italian independent non-governmental organisation working in Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid projects in 29 countries worldwide, including Italy. The NGO carries out 128 projects reaching over 2.4 million direct beneficiaries and 12.3 million indirect beneficiaries. Children, women and youth, actors of change in every community, are the protagonists of WeWorld projects and campaigns in the following fields of intervention: gender equality, prevention and contrast of violence against women and children, migrations, humanitarian aid (prevention, aid and reconstruction), food security, water and sanitation, health, education and learning, socio-economic development, environmental protection, global citizenship education and international volunteering.

Project Summary

The objective is to improve retention and engagement in a quality primary education for “high risk” and “most at risk” students affected by multiple risk factors in marginalized urban areas in Tanzania. Target interventions, designed to respond to specific risk factors, as well as to better intervene in specific contexts, are based on a tailored holistic and integrated approach, articulated in 3 main areas of intervention: i) Specific interventions will be realized at school level, to support the identified  low performing most at risk students and improve their school performance and engagement (Outcome 1). ii) Community-based interventions aiming at mitigating risks associated to background and demographic characteristics for the vulnerable students, in order to promote their retention (Outcome 2). Critical risks factors such as Disability, Gender specific risks factors, Protection concerns, will be tackled. iii) Besides, the project will strengthen the capacities of duty bearers to enforce education policies and address barriers affecting access and retention to quality education for vulnerable and marginalized students (Outcome 3), supporting the improvement of the Education Management Information System (BEMIS/S.I.S.). It will also support awareness raising and information processes towards both duty bearers and the local population, about barriers to education and education policies, at local, county/province and national level.

Key Objectives of the Position

The Project Assistant has to support the Education programs in Dar es Salaam ensuring a quality, on-time and within budget activities` implementation in accordance with WeWorld standards and ethics and Project Manager’s instructions. The Project Assistant bridges the link between the project field team and the communities and local government representatives and engage in community/institutional capacity building activities.

He/she will collect community-level data, conduct awareness sessions, collect routine programmatic data and work with other key program team members to ensure the smooth delivery of programmatic services within the community.

Key Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Project Manager, the project assistant acts as project focal point for WeWorld’s activities and ensure excellence in implementation of the project activities in terms of impact, reporting, and timeliness.  Areas of focus will include the following:

Planning, implementation, monitoring (Project Activities)

  • Support all field education staff in all activities (in field and office).
  • Support the Long Distance Sponsorship Programme.
  • Implementation of the project activities by visiting the target schools and communities.
  • Verification of the impact of the project activities to the children and to other stakeholders (mainly teachers and parents).
  • The identification of issues or situations in need to be addressed by the project
  • Ensure that all the documentation related to the field activities is available and maintain files and databases in a timely and complete manner.
  • Establish a trustworthy relationship with all the Education Stakeholders and beneficiaries.

Procurement/Logistics

  • Support the logistic department in the activities.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Excellent communication (writing and oral) skills and reporting skills in English
  • Computer skills, in particular MS Office, web and social media skills
  • Willingness to work on field.
  • Car driving licence (MANDATORY)
  • Demonstrates integrity concerning NGO values and ethical standards
  • Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability
  • Professional Experience: at least 2 years of experience working in a similar position with local/international organizations, government or relevant organizations in development projects
