UNIVERSITY OF DAR ES SALAAM COMPUTING CENTRE

VACANCIES

UCC is hereby inviting applications from suitable qualified candidates to immediately fill in the
following vacant positions currently existing in the company.

1. POSITION: SENIOR NETWORK ENGINEER
Work Station: Dar es Salaam
Report to: Manager, Network and Systems Engineering
Duties and Responsibilities:

Data Centre
(i) Management of Data Centre infrastructure (power, cooling and physical access).
(ii) Design and implementation of the processes, procedures and operational
management associated with Data Centre security and business continuity.
(iii) Data Centre documentation and policy creation and management.
(iv) Management of Data Centre service providers; defining and monitoring
contractual obligations, performance delivery and service level agreements.
(v) Management of infrastructure costs.
(vi) Maintenance of professional standards of Data Centres facilities (cleanliness, rack
security, shared consoles and keyboards).
(vii) 24 x 7 Support of Infrastructure Services
(viii) Capacity planning.

Network Operations
(ix) Planning, procurement, designing, developing, configuring and commissioning
networks and associated systems for network monitoring and incident
management.
(x) Network documentation and policy design/compliance.
(xi) Analyzing, evaluating and monitoring network infrastructure to ensure networks
are configured to operate at optimal performance.
(xii) Troubleshooting and diagnosing network problems, and determining the most
appropriate means of resolving problems and issues to improve network
performance.
(xiii) Monitoring the overall performance of systems to assess the need for updates,
upgrades, enhancements, preventive maintenance and new systems, and
recommending options for upgrading and improving the performance of systems.
Excellence, Innovation and Technological foresight
(xiv) Scheduling and conducting quality audit inspections.
(xv) Liaising with network carriers and external resources for these organizations;
defining and monitoring contractual obligations, performance delivery and service
level agreements.
(xvi) Management and reconciliation of network supplier costs.
(xvii)Design and implementation of the processes, procedures and operational
management associated with high levels of network availability and risk
management.
(xviii) Capacity planning.
(xix) 24 x 7 Support of Network Services

Business Growth & Development
(xx) Research and development of new products and service relevant to areas of
responsibility.
(xxi) Business case development and evaluation in support of proposed initiatives in
conjunction with the Engineering Team Lead.
(xxii)Strategic and Tactical planning and budget development for data centre and
network operations in conjunction with the Engineering Team Lead.
(xxiii) Pre-sales support for the sales team.

Technical Skills and Requirements
(i) Experience: At least 8 years working in a technical environment with a focus on
network management
(ii) Education: Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or
similar.
(iii) Certifications: MCSE, CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, CNE desired
(iv) Systems: Windows, Cisco Systems, UNIX, Linux, Novell
(v) Networking: Switches, Routers, Cables, Racks, Firewalls, LAN, VLAN, WAN,
VPN, TCP/IP, DNS, UDP, Latency, VoIP, QoS, EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, NHRP,
ATM, PPP, MPLS

2. POSITION: SENIOR SOFTWARE DEVELOPER (RE-ADVERTISED)
Work Station: Dar es Salaam
Report to: Manager, Software Engineering

Duties and responsibilities
(i) Participation in software product definition, including business case or gap
analysis
(ii) Work with team members to design innovative software programs that improve
and simplify customer experience
(iii) Coding, unit testing, and integration testing
(iv) Debug complex issues found in production between multiple systems or services
(v) Design fault tolerant, redundant systems that are highly available
(vi) Leverage modern best practices such as Test Driven Development and Continuous
Integration to deliver early and often
(vii) Participate in and help lead various agile ceremony meetings (Sprint Planning,
Stand-up, Pair-Programming, Code Reviews, Retrospective, etc.)
(viii) Coach other members of the team on technology and best practices

Minimum Qualifications
Excellence, Innovation and Technological foresight
 Experience: At least 8 years working in a technical environment with a focus on
software development
 BSc or MSc in Computer Science or computer related field
 Expertise in multiple modern programming languages across multiple platforms and
systems (Java, Python, PHP, C#, Ruby, etc.)
 Comfortable with full development stack (e.g. UX, Web, API, Business Logic, database).
 Expert knowledge in Scrum and/or other agile development methodologies
 Experience in a mixed operating system environment (Windows, Linux)

3. POSITION: SOFTWARE DEVELOPER
Work Station: Dar es Salaam
Report to: Manager, Software Engineering
Duties and responsibilities
(i) Participation in software product definition, including business case or gap
analysis
(ii) Work with team members to design innovative software programs that improve
and simplify customer experience
(iii) Coding, unit testing, and integration testing
(iv) Debug issues found in production between multiple systems or services
(v) Read, understand and effectively implement system specifications into Software
Product
(vi) Develop fault tolerant, redundant systems that are highly available
(vii) Leverage modern best practices such as Test Driven Development and Continuous
Integration to deliver early and often
(viii) Participate in various agile ceremony meetings (Sprint Planning, Stand-up, PairProgramming,
Code Reviews, Retrospective, etc.)

Minimum Qualifications
 Experience: At least 5 years working in a technical environment with a focus on
software development
 BSc in Computer Science or computer related field
 Expertise in multiple modern programming languages across multiple platforms and
systems (Java, Python, PHP, C#, Ruby, etc.)
 Comfortable with full development stack (e.g. UX, Web, API, Business Logic, database).
 Expert knowledge in Scrum and/or other agile development methodologies
 Experience in a mixed operating system environment (Windows, Linux
